TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite - Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla identified human costs and economic reasons for his decision to place the province under a 14-day strict quarantine.

The governor elaborated that based on reports about the economic effects of the pandemic in the Philippines, Region 4-A suffered the most compared to other regions in the country losing about Php10 billion in lost productivity.

Among the five provinces comprising the region, Cavite was the most affected province in terms of human costs for recording more than 160 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date.

Likewise, the economy of the province was paralyzed with Php2 billion lost on wages from the economic zones; 100,000 PUV drivers with no income; 2,000 restaurants, fast-food chains, and eateries closed; all leisure resorts and hotels in Tagaytay City closed; beaches in the towns of Naic, Tanza and Ternate closed; commercial establishments and malls closed, and 100,000 employees from Cavite to Manila displaced.

"This is by far the most severe economic dislocation in our history," stressed Gov. Jonvic Remulla.

Citing the measure of readiness used by US government to open the economy, the governor said,"14 days of declining infections must be reached. Though we have slowed the rate of infections, but the numbers continue to rise."

Based on the above assessments, the governor ordered the 14-day strict quarantine on the entire province.

"We will have a 14-day strict quarantine from April 30, 12 midnight until 5am of May 15, 2020," Remulla declared. (Ruel Francisco, PIA-Cavite with reports from Governor Jonvic Remulla's FB page)
