IMUS CITY, Cavite - Imus City Mayor Emmanuel L. Maliksi met recently with members of the Sangguniang Panglungsod, officers of concerned groups, and bureaus to discuss present COVID-19 situation in the city and refine strategic measures already being implemented.

Mayor Maliksi elaborated on the issue of access to food and basic necessities with the continuance of the market day schedule per barangay for both public markets in Imus and Bahayang Pagasa.

"Mahabang pila pero maluwag na palengke," the Mayor remarked.

This means controlling the number of city residents going in and out of the market while ensuring observance of physical distancing.

There are more than 20 mobile markets for accreditation/orientation in addition to the 53 mobile markets already operational all over the city that helps to decongest the markets and consequently limit the movement of residents.

Another alternative means is the Online Grocery initiated by YES Coop for the door-to-door delivery of foods and basic essentials with 10 e-trikes accredited for delivery.

Meanwhile, the 'Libreng Sakay' transportation scheme is extended with 30 vans used to shuttle almost 220 frontliners within the city and to NCR every day, while 110 tricycles transport residents to public markets, groceries or drugstores. The city buses with two routes: Malagasang to Imus Palengke, and Bahayang Pagasa to Imus Palengke still roll the main roads.

Designated drivers who alternately drive these service vehicles are paid by the local government to give them a source of living while providing transportation to the residents.

Mayor Maliksi reported the Sangguniang Panglungsod has approved the setting-up of a Testing Facility which he hopes will be functional by May 8, 2020.

"If ever, we will be the first LGU to have our very own testing facility," Mayor Maliksi proudly stated. (Ruel Francisco, PIA-Cavite with reports from Imus City Information Office)
