GENERAL LUNA, Quezon - The Municipality of General Luna, Quezon province has received "Local Governments in Focus-Transparency Initiative" award from Freedom of Information Philippines under the National Government of the Philippines on June 17,2020. The award is for the full disclosure of Local Government Units ( LGUs) in their transactions at a time when all kinds of support are needed, comprehensive disclosure of all donations received, whether in cash or in-kind, as well as assistance to the public in the active monitoring if all COVID-19 donations are being evenly distributed in their respective localities.

During his term as a mayor, two High Schools were built, the General Luna National High School and the Integrated School in Brgy. Recto, General Luna, Quezon.

In an interview, Mayor Matt Florido said that he has always practiced good governance through integrity, advocacy, and transparency. He also said that 80 percent of his projects had been completed during his term of office.

The award is due to the initiative of the mayor himself. When asked if he was planning to run for a higher position, he humbly and gracefully said, “Wala pa po akong planong tumakbo sa mas mataas na posisyon, gusto ko po munang magsilbi sa aking mga kababayan at marami pa pong dapat ayusin at tulungan”.

During this pandemic, Mayor Matt also provided over 4.8 million pesos of local government funding to teachers, farmers, fishermen, vendors, pregnant women, mothers with 2 years old child, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities and displaced workers.

A lot of people praised him when he launched the "naSACtan Program" where he provided 4000 pesos of cash assistance to "genaralunahins" who did not receive the Social Amelioration Program (SAP). In addition, he provided scholarships to those students who are unable to pay for their school fees.

This is not the first award that has been given by the National Government to the Municipality of General Luna. Recently General Luna was also recognized by the DSWD for the "Damay sa NaSACtan" program and the DILG-IATF for “Ligtas Gutom Task Force and for the “Pautang na Walang Tubo” program that provided loans of up to 150,000 pesos for business owners.

"If General Luna, Quezon can carry out these programs in a short period of time, then other LGUs in Quezon Province should be able to do the same in a spirit of transparency, advocacy, service and love "SERVE WITH A HEART.," said General Luna resident.

Aside from General Luna, the 3 municipalities and cities were awarded the 2020 Local Governments in Focus-Transparency Initiative award: Iloilo City; Arkong Bato, Valenzuela; Baguio City, Tagapo, Sta Rosa, Laguna; Baler, Aurora.
