CALAMBA CITY, Laguna - Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr, Chief Implementer of the National Inter-Agency Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 commended CALABARZON for the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 recoveries in the Region.

The Secretary was guest of honor at the special meeting of the CALABARZON RTF held Thursday, June 18 at the Cultural Center of Laguna in the provincial capital town of Sta. Cruz.

"First of all, I would like to congratulate the Region 4A. Alam po natin medyo tumataas pa rin ang bilang ng kaso pero, I am very impressed for the more than 1,000 recoveries," Sec. Galvez Jr said in his opening message.

During the meeting, Sec. Galvez presented the COVID-19 national situationer. He said the national data on COVID-19 shows CALABARZON is No. 3 in all the regions, next to Central Visayas and the National Capital Region (NCR).

While presenting the national situationer, Sec. Galvez noted the big discrepancies in the data.

"Makikita sa data na malaki ang discrepancies, sa report ng DOH CALABARZON, mas mababa ang bilang ng tinatawag natin na active cases," Sec. Galvez commented.

(We can see the big discrepancies in the data, in the DOH CALABARZON report, the a number of active cases is lower.)

He said their reason of going around the different regions is to get in touch with their primaries to have harmonization of data on COVID-19 showing the true happening in the localities.

"Pero dito sa CALABARZON nakita natin na mataas ang COVID-19 confirmed cases sa Rizal at Laguna. Kahit naman mataas, nakita natin ang masisigasig at masisipag na mga LGUs," the Secretary added.

(In CALABARZON, we can see a high number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Rizal and Laguna. Despite the high number of cases, we can see the efforts of the LGUs to contain the disease.)

Meanwhile, in addressing a spike of new cases in a locality, the Secretary explained the enhancement of the ‘zoning concept.’

According to Sec. Galvez, the Mayor has the authority based on the NTF Guidelines to declare lockdown on a specific place with the recommendation of the barangay chairman when there is a spike of 2 or more COVID-19 confirmed cases in an area.

"With the declaration of the lockdown, the Mayor has to inform the provincial governor and the RTF," Sec. Galvez added.

The Secretary, reported the NTF has allocated 200,100 personal protective equipment (PPEs), full set-head to foot, to 164 public hospitals in CALABARZON region. He mentioned that out of the total allocated PPEs, 164,100 were already delivered while the 36,000 are still to be delivered.
