LUCENA CITY - The wife of an Army soldier who was infected by coronavirus desease (COVID-19) has infected four others including her two grand children in Catanauan, Quezon.

Aside from the four, another case was recorded in this city, according to Quezon Public Information Office (QPIO) in its latest bulletin.



The wife was the first case recorded in Catanauan town, now with 6 confirmed COVID-19 cases. But it was later found that her soldier husband was also infected by the virus and was actually the one who transmitted the respiratory desease to her.



The soldier has been assigned outside Quezon but was occasionally visiting his wife.
He is now confined at V. Luna Hospital in Quezon City.

Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) chief, Dr. Grace Santiago said the wife later infected her 8 year- grandson, 7 year- old granddaughrer, s 57 year- old female barangay health worker and a 38 year- old tricycle driver who had close contact with her.

"The health worker and the driver have assisted her when she was not yet found infected by the virus", said Santiago.

To prevent the spread of the deadly virus, Catanaun Mayor Ramon Orfanel placed Barangays Dahican and X under total lockdown June 20.

As to the latest case in this city, the IPHO chief said the one found positive with the desease is among the returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the province.

She said the OFW was earlier cleared by Bureau of Quarantine of the Department of Health (DOH) upon their arriaval but was later infected by the virus.

So far, Quezon province has 113 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 77 recoveries, 9 deaths and 27 still admitted in different medical facilities. As to the suspected cases, the province has 1,413.

Of the figures, 715 have been cleared on home quarantine, 555 have been discharged, 46 are still on home quarantine, 38 have died, while 59 are still confined.
