Quezon town police chief sacked over ‘sexist’ FB post
Capt. Sayson

LUCENA CITY - The commander of a police station in Quezon province which posted insensitive statements against women on its Facebook page was sacked from his post.

Ordered relieved was P/Major Rizaldy Merene, chief of Lucban police station on instructions of Quezon police director Col. Audie Madrideo.

Merene was replaced by Capt. Vanessa Sayson, former chief of Provincial Admin Resource Management Unit and the youngest member of the provincial police staff.

The controversial post, which has already been deleted after it went viral, read:

“Mahalin natin ang mga kababaihan at huwag nyo abusuhin ang kanilang kabaitan. Kayo naman mga ghErlsz, wag kayo magsuot ng pagkaikli-ikling damit at pag naman nabastos ay magsusumbong din sa amin. Isipin ‘nyo rin!”

The post which was shared at least 4,000 times and received thousands of negative reactions have earned the ire of netizens, mostly women, prompted National Police chief Gen. Archie Gamboa to call for an immediate investigation.

After an investigation was conducted by the Provincial Investigation Detective Management Unit on orders of Madrideo, Merene was found liable under the principle of command responsibility for lapses and negligence committed by his subordinates.

Merene earlier said that the intriguing comment was posted by the station's radio operator, Venn Johne Abanador, a Non-Uniformed Personnel who also served as clerk of the Police Community Relations (PCR) section.

He said Abanador explained to him that he posted the said comment with the pure intention of advising women to be wary of wearing clothes that might place them in an unsafe situation and end up with their need for police assistance. The official said the statement was posted in good faith but its message was taken out of context.

Many netizens, especially women, branded it as a form of victim-blaming.

During her assumption as a new town police commander, Sayson vowed to perform well, and do her best.
