Philippine Red Cross distributes cash grants to Rizaleños
Philippine Red Cross Chairman and Senator Richard "Dick" Gordon spearheaded the distribution of cash grants to Antipolo City for four towns and one city in Rizal province particularly families affected by quarantines due to COVID-19. (GG)


ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal-The Philippine Red Cross has distributed cash grants to a number of families in the province of Rizal who are affected by the quarantine created by COVID19.

Nearly 200 people received P 3,500 each in Barangay Cupang, Antipolo City, on the afternoon of July 10, as the first distribution of aid in the province of Rizal.





The assistance was provided by the Chairman of the PRC, Senator Richard "Dick" Gordon.

“Ngayong araw na ito magdidistribute kami ng kaunting tulong. Hindi poi to abot. Hindi po kami marunong mag-abot sa Red Cross. Ang ugali po naming ay itinataas naming ang mga nahihirapan,” he sais.





“Hindi po kami charitable organization, kami po ay humanitarian organization,” the senator added, adding that the organization values ​​the dignity of the people it helps.

Senator Gordon is also set to distribute cash grants to nearly 130 people in Cainta Town on the same day after the initial distribution in Antipolo, while the people of other cities in Rizal, such as Taytay and Binangonan, are scheduled to receive the names of the Philippine Red Cross.





Antipolo programs include PRC Secretary General Elizabeth Zavalla, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Country Office Acting Head Patrick Eliott, Rizal Acting Governor Reynaldo "Junrey" San Juan Jr., former Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares, Taytay Vice Mayor Mitch Bermundo and other local officials of cities that will benefit.

Before the program started, Senator Gordon went to the opening of the Molecular Testing Lab at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños, which will be a great help in the COVID-19 test.

When asked at the post-distribution press conference whether there are still other test facilities in Calabarzon, Senator Gordon announced that he had just opened facilities in Batangas, Laguna, and Quezon.

The Senator also added that it may be possible to have a facility in Rizal Province if the cases of COVID19 are still on the rise.

“Kung dadami yan, at palagay ko dadami yan, baka maglagay tayo dito sa area. Pero napakamahal niyan,” Gordon said.

The PRC has expressed its continued support for the fight against COVID-19 in its other services such as 6 PRC ambulances in Rizal Province.

“Ang importante ang makarecover. Ang importante hindi mamatay ang tao,” he said.
