Department of Health (DOH) – CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) yesterday formally turned-over the third sea ambulance to the local government of Patnanungan, Quezon to be used to convey emergency patients from the islands to the nearest health facility and also to respond to rescue operations in times of sea calamities in the area.

“Although the pandemic caused delays in the process of the construction of the sea ambulance, we are grateful that it will finally set sail to provide the needed service to the community of Patnanungan, Quezon. Napakahalaga ng proyektong ito upang tayo ay makapagserbisyo sa ating mamamayan at makapagbigay ng agarang lunas sa mga may sakit at makapagligtas ng buhay,” Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo stated in his message during the turn-over of the sea ambulance held at Eva’s Kitchenette in Real Quezon on September 23, 2020 at 10AM.

“Upang lalo pang makapagbigay ng mas maayos na serbisyong kalusugan, ito ay lalagyan din natin ng pondo upang makabili ng mga emergency equipment at emergency kits na magagamit ng ating mga health workers sa tuwing sila ay bibisita at magbibigay ng preventive health care services at sa pagreresponde din lalo na ngayong may COVID 19 na pandemya,” he added.

According to the Integrated Provincial Health Office of Quezon, as of September 23, 2020, the municipality of Patnanungan has recorded only one Covid case. The province of Quezon has a total of 1,711 confirmed cases, 373 of these were active cases. There were 1,280 recoveries with 58 deaths.

Among the top city/municipalities with high Covid 19 cases were Lucena with 431; Mauban – 184; Tayabas -134; Candelaria – 130; and Calauag – 108.

The town of Patnanungan is a fifth-class municipality and part of the Polilio Group of Islands and considered as a Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area with only one rural health unit located in Barangay Población and six barangay health stations.

The sea ambulance will serve to alleviate the difficulties of sending patients from the islands to higher health facilities located about 63 kilometers from the mainland of Real, Quezon.

Janairo also acknowledged the essential effort and support of local government executives, particularly Quezon Provincial Governor David Suarez, First District Representative Wilfrido Mark Enverga and Fourth District Representative Dr. Angelina Tan.

“Ingatan po natin at bigyang halaga ang paggamit ng sea ambulance na ito dahil ito po ay bunga ng pagkakaisa at pagtutulungan ng mga taong namumuno at likas ang pagmamahal sa bayan upang maiangat ang antas ng kalusugan sa inyong probinsya at mabigyan kayo ng sapat na serbisyong pangkalusugan,” Janairo concluded.
