GENERAL LUNA, Quezon – Everything came together on a brilliant beach day for the Skim Fest at Mamao Beach, at Barangay San Jose General Luna, Quezon on July 30, 2021, organized by Mamao Skim Crew in collaboration with Mayor Matt Erwin Florido, Local Government Unit, and the Local Youth Development Office.

According to Joseph H. Brias, one of the Co-founders of Mamao Skim Crew, in an exclusive Sentinel Times interview, this is not the first time the Skimboarding Competition has been held in General Luna, Quezon. This is the second competition, with the first taking place in April of 2019. This sport has also been held in towns throughout Quezon, including Lucena City and Tayabas, as well as in other parts of the country.

The Mamao Skim Crew consists of Lawrence Jay J. Japor; Founder, Joseph H. Briñas, Christian S. Loren Kimpoll Patiag, Toby Balane, Vince J. Hilario; Co-Founders, Jun Caesar Figuerra; Appointed President and formed in 2015 whose first name was Bay City. They are part of the organization of the Local Youth Development Office. The Local Youth Development Office, on the other hand, forms various organizations such as Lakan and Lakambini ng Kabataan, Community Pantry on wheels, Sangguniang Kabataan and others.

Skimboarding is still viewed a fringe sport, but the shoreline areas of General Luna are prime real estate for those who enjoy riding the fringe. However, Brias stated that they and the residents of General Luna are extremely fortunate to have Mayor Florido, who is willing to support all of the passions of this town's youth.

Muli po, maraming salamat Yorme with a Heart! " said Mamao Skim Crew in their Facebost post.

They also thanked all of the young people who assisted and participated in making the tournament a success.

Participants came from Lucena City, Tayabas, Pagbilao, Gumaca, Catanauan, Sariaya, and Macalelon, representing shoreside communities throughout General Luna. They tested their strength and resolve against the curling and unfurling ocean tide coming off Mamao Beach, barefoot and in board shorts. Riders launched crisscross into the crashing wake in heats of three. They float across the shallow water, stylizing with shove-its, wraps, rotations, and other tricks for the judges.

The tournament lasted from 6:00 a.m. to around 5:00 p.m., with boys over the age of 18 competing for trophies and prize packages. It began with a Coastal Clean-up drive along the Mamao Beach Coast, followed by a Skim Tutorial in the afternoon, and the Skim Competition, which was the competition's highlight. Many bystanders had gathered along the marked area to watch the tournament, despite the beach waves and the wild action.

The sport is still somewhat underground, but the community is strong, and the Mamao Skim Crew has stated that they will continue what they started. They want General Luna, the Skimboarding field of sports, and our clean beaches to be known throughout the Philippines.

Mayor Florido congratulated the Mamao Skim Crew on the successful hosting of Skim Fest 2021. He stated that he was very impressed with their willingness to give their time and themselves to ensure the success of the tournament.

Maraming maraming salamat! " Mayor Florido said in Facebook post.

Mamao Skim Crew said.
