LUCENA CITY - The City Government, led by Mayor Roderick ‘Dondon' Alcala, recently extended its support to the Drug Clearing Deliberation and Declaration for Drug Cleared and Drug Free Barangays through Public Information Officer Arnel Avila.

In his speech, Avila stated that, while this program has not been easy for the local government, it is due to Mayor Dondon Alcala's efforts that this anti-illicit drug campaign has been successful.

He stated that there are 26 drug-free barangays in Lucena's thirty-three barangays.

It is proud to be the first Drug Reformation Center in the entire southern hemisphere program of the Lucena City Anti-Drug Abuse Council or CADAC, which is called Balay Silangan and cares for people who want to change their lives and get away from illegal drugs.

Avila also cited that the City and CADAC were named the Top 9 Best Performing Community Based Rehabilitation Program and Best Performing Anti-Drug Abuse Council in the country for their Drug Reformation Program.

He explained that not only can all of this be overcome, but also with the efforts of CADAC Supervising Head Francia Malabanan and the assistance of the Lucena City Police Department, led by PLt. Col. Romulo ‘Bong' Albacea.

He also said that Alcala expressed his support to the captains of the two barangays, 8 and 10, that were subjected to deliberation and congratulated them on their decision to be included in the drug-free barangays.

It went on to say that the number being added to the record is proof that the local government's illegal drug campaign was a success.

Finally, Avila expressed Alcala's gratitude to the members of the Regional Oversight Committee for taking the time to assess the said two barangays for inclusion in the City's drug-free zones.
