BATANGAS CITY - About 20 youths aged 12 to 17 with comorbidities received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine at the start of pediatric vaccination in Batangas province.

On October 29, the symbolic Covid-19 vaccination for the pediatric population was conducted at the Batangas Medical Center.

The selected youths who were injected with the first dose of vaccine came from various barangays including barangay Libjo, Ambulong, Sta. Rita, Sta. Clara, Cuta, Pallocan West, San Jose Sico and Poblacion all have medical certificates from the pediatrician that they have comorbidities.

According to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Rosvilinda Ozaeta, pediatric vaccination can be considered historic because it is what not only parents but also young people have been waiting for for a long time.

He also said that only 35% or 2.1 million individuals have been fully vaccinated in the entire province of Batangas, which he said is far from the 70% herd immunity that is targeted to be achieved before the end of the year.

Batangas City Health Officer Dr. Rosanna Carmelita Barrion that by vaccinating the youth, the percentage of those vaccinated will increase not only in Batangas City but also throughout the country.

Discussed by the Pediatric Society of the Philippines Region IV President Dr. Elizabeth Palines highlighted the importance of young people being vaccinated against Covid-19 to prevent children from becoming ‘spreaders’ and reduce their chances of contracting the disease.

“Mahalaga na masimulan na ang vaccination ng ating mga anak para bumalik ang normal activities nila tulad ng pag-aaral,” said Dr. Palines.

Dr. Valerie Pascual of DOH Region IV-A informed who will begin vaccinating all 12-17 years old this week in preparation for the students' face-to-face classes.

According to her, the regional offices of the DOH are just waiting for the ‘go signal’ from the government for the booster dose which is also one that Filipinos are waiting for.

Mayor Beverley Dimacuha also delivered a message in which she emphasized that vaccines are the answer to win the battle against Covid-19.

“Huwag tayong maniwala sa mga fake news na kumakalat sa social media na masama sa kalusugan ang mga vaccines bagkus mas maniwala tayo sa mga eksperto na masusing pinag-aaralan kung paano magugupo ang corona virus,” Dimacuha said. (with report from Batangas City PIO)
