BATANGAS CITY - On October 29, 2021, the Batangas city government distributed 1,831 free-range chickens to 183 residents of the city's various barangays.

The distribution of free-range chicken is part of the city government's 'Livelihood Assistance and Economic Recovery of Small Farmers Amid Covid-19 Pandemic' program, which is being carried out by the Office of the City Veterinary and Agricultural Services (OCVAS).



Each beneficiary received ten chickens with the agreement that they would return 20 chicks from the hatchery to be distributed to others interested in raising the chickens.

In this regard, Mayor Beverley Rose Dimacuha and Fifth District Representative Marvey Marino also provided 21 manual incubators to Barangay Livestock and Agricultural Technicians (BLATS) to be used for incubation.



Meanwhile, the residents of Poblacion 1-24 were provided with agricultural supplies and planting materials under the Sustainable Agriculture Green and Growing Urban and Community Vegetable Gardening Project.

The program is a continuation of the “Isang Puno, Isang Patpat, ating Buhay ang Katapat” project and the “Binhi Ngayon, Pagkain Bukas” project initiated by former Mayor Eduardo Dimacuha.



It aims to promote planting in urban and sub-urban barangays that can be a source of nutritious vegetables and to combat the challenge of food poverty caused by the pandemic.

Various planting materials such as shovels, cultivators, plastic drums, sprinklers, organic fertilizers, seedling trays and more were also provided.

Crops such as calamansi, green lemon, rambutan, avocado papaya, assorted seeds and others were also distributed.

In this regard, the distribution of agricultural supplies and planting materials in 17 sub-urban barangays is set for November 10. (with report from Batangas City PIO)
