BATANGAS CITY - The climax activity for the observation of 2021 Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week was held at the Provincial Auditorium, Capitol Site, Batangas City on November 19, 2021.
The final activity for the commemoration of 2021 Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week was held recently at the Provincial Auditorium, Capitol Site, Batangas City.
Joining the hybrid program were Governor DoDo Mandanas, Chairperson of the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), Batangas Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial Director Abigail Nacion-Andres, PACD department head and PADAC Technical Working Group Chairperson Fredesvinda Mendoza , along with several Local Chief Executives of the province, City and Municipal Local Government Operations Office representatives, City and Municipal Drug Abuse Council members, and PADAC member states.
The gathering, themed “Share Facts on Drugs, Saves Lives,” featured the emphasis on the importance of fighting disinformation and fake news about the campaign against illegal drugs. Also in line with the said theme, its purpose is to prevent fake news that has a negative impact on the program, increase the proper knowledge of the people so as not to be deceived by false information about illegal drugs, and more help to avoid the more the temptation of drug use.
According to the 2019 Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) Performance Audit conducted by DILG, the culminating activity also resulted in the recognition of 25 City and Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Councils that earned high functionality points.
Taal Municipal ADAC was honored as having the highest functionality points when it obtained a perfect score of 100. Taal Mayor Fulgencio Mercado, along with Vice Mayor Jovits Albufera and DILG Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Francia Templo, personally accepted the award. The Municipalities of San Jose and Lemery were ranked as Top 2 and 3, all of which scored 95 high functionality points.
For the fourth to twenty-fifth ADACs to enter the High Functional and Moderate Functional ratings, they include Alitagtag, San Juan, San Pascual, Lobo, Calaca, Tuy, Taysan, Balete, Calatagan, Bauan, Rosario , Mabini, Balayan, Sta. Teresita, Lipa City, Tanauan City, Talisay, Padre Garcia, Cuenca, Ibaan, Nasugbu, and Tingloy.
The Top 3 Performing Municipal ADACs gained a computer set and acrylic marker, while those belonging to the 4th to 25th rank City and Municipal ADACs each gained a computer set.
Meanwhile, in the message given by Governor Mandanas, it pointed out the importance of every advocate to curb the use of illegal drugs. "We are offering our identities today, in our celebration, so that we can have a good life, a truly heroic province," the governor said.
Moreover, the governor also stressed that he said the country's fight against drugs is more intense compared to facing the trials brought by COVID-19. According to Governor Mandanas, good leadership is important in curbing illegal drug use because it will result in healthy citizens, good governance, and safe communities.
The nationwide celebration of Drug Abuse Prevention and Control (DAPC) Week is in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 124, dated November 26, 2001 in which the third week of the month of November was declared DAPC Week to promote public awareness of the ill effects of illegal drug use, and to encourage the cooperation of every citizen in anti- drug campaigns.
