The Silver-tongued pedagogue, from a lost lamb to an inspirational teacher
Eugene De La Cruz Uy

CATANAUAN, Quezon - Eugene De La Cruz Uy was always a winner in the arena of orators. From elementary school to winning the National Arts Competition in 2016, he has come a long way. His name can be heard in every corner of the room, and people who have only seen him from a distance are awestruck by his performances. Many people saw how articulately he stood out in the battle of the brains and education combat not only because they were on the same battlefield and had similar interests, but also because they were fans of him.

From his professional attire to simple tittle-tattle in school, Uy spreads a positive aura.

His strong commitment to education and community is inextricably linked to his identity as an educator.

Born on October 9, 1985 in Catanauan, Quezon to proud parents Mano and Menchu Uy, his name first echoed as Mount Carmel Catholic School Valedictorian in 2002. One of his mantras is to look back and be grateful. He is a Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation Catanauan Inc alumnus who is now a top performing faculty member and the English coordinator at his alma mater.

He is a member of the maroon and white banner pride. He chose to be a servant to his lovely hometown and an influencer in his art. In 2020, he began contributing to Sentinel Times Calabarzon as a writer.

This man rose from humble beginnings to become an asset to the institution he serves while studying Business and Advertising in Singapore. He is now a Certified Human Resource Associate.

On being lost

But, like any success story, despite his intelligence and illustrious family, he was never immune to depression, earthbound flaws, and vices. His darkest days came when he became a slave to addiction and gambling. But God's son will always find his way back home. He fully accepted Jesus as his savior in 2017. "There are some walks you have to take with the Messiah," he said.

These stages taught him that there is more to fame, social symbolism, and bread and butter; it is SERVICE, because our end point is none other than our creator. "There would always be dark days, and it's okay not to be okay, but the most important life lesson is how we deal with our demons." He continued.

His passion knows no bounds, and when he speaks, aside from his fluent command of the second language, his faith, which humbles him, will make you respect, admire, and, at the very least, inspire you.

Serve not for yourself but for others

When asked about his long-term goals, he emphasizes simplicity and selflessness, “Wala naman po Ma’am, I am content where I’m at. I will just do the purpose that God called me to do po. Hindi na din po ako naghahangad ng mataas na pwesto or material things I am happy kung yung mga naturuan ko na bata ay maging successful, that is my greatest dream”, he said

"This is my story," he said, "from a lost lamb to an inspirational teacher."
