LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Lucena City officially received 15 new handwashing kiosks from the Department of Health (DOH) Center for Health Development CALABARZON on Monday, June 9. The turnover ceremony, held during the city's flag-raising event, marks a direct enhancement to local public health infrastructure.
City officials were present to accept the donation. Mayor Kuya Mark Alcala and Vice Mayor Roderick Alcala were on hand, joined by City Health Office OIC Dr. Jocelyn Chua, Public Market Administrator Marian Gallardo, and the barangay captains representing the communities that will directly benefit from the program.
These new handwashing kiosks will be placed at the City Health Office, the Public Market, various satellite clinics, and Child Development Centers in several barangays. These include Dalahican, Ibangang Iyam, Gulang-Gulang, Mayo Crossing, Mayo Silangan, Market View, Ibangang Dupay, Bara, and Cotta.
During the ceremony, Jeanette Atienza-Primicias, Health Education and Promotion Officer for CHD 4 CALABARZON, and City Department of Health Officer Brian Villanueva spoke about the positive effects of handwashing in preventing illness.
"Simple handwashing is a powerful tool in preventing the spread of diseases, especially in our daily lives where we constantly interact with various surfaces and people. We urge everyone to make good use of these facilities and ensure their proper maintenance for the benefit of our community, as these kiosks are a shared resource for a healthier Lucena." Atienza-Primicias said.
The turnover was confirmed by the signing of a Pledge of Commitment, which signifies the Lucena City Local Government Unit's (LGU) support for improving health, sanitation, and the well-being of the city's residents. The LGU extended its gratitude to DOH CALABARZON for their ongoing assistance in promoting a healthier and safer Lucena and a "Bagong Pilipinas."
