TAYABAS CITY, Quezon — Thousands of farmers here received government-supplied crop inputs as Tayabas expanded assistance for local agricultural production. Aimed at improving plant nutrition and disease control, the August 17 intervention addressed two concerns that can directly affect crop yields.
Mayor Anthony “Piwa” Lim led the distribution at the Tayabas Integrated Farm and Agricultural Research Center, where 2,300 farmers received the assistance. The activity brought together farm inputs provided by the Department of Agriculture and the Tayabas City Government.
In an earlier agricultural assistance activity, Lim said the city government had a responsibility to stand by farmers when they face difficulties. His remarks reflected the continuing support for the sector seen in the latest distribution.
“Alam naming hindi biro ang pagiging magsasaka, kaya tungkulin ng pamahalaan na tiyaking may kaagapay kayo sa panahon ng pangangailangan at krisis. Sa tulong ng PCIC at ng lokal na pamahalaan, patuloy kayong magsumikap at mapanatili ang inyong sigla at motibasyon sa pagbibigay ng pagkain sa bawat tahanan ng ating mahal na Lungsod ng Tayabas.” Lim said.
The Department of Agriculture, through Quezon 1st District Rep. Wilfrido Mark Enverga, provided 6,668 bottles of foliar fertilizer. The city government separately supplied 500 packages of fungicide/bactericide for local farmers.
Beyond the one-day distribution, the assistance forms part of efforts to support agricultural production by improving access to basic farm inputs. Providing both fertilizer and crop-protection products addresses different production needs that can influence crop condition and output.
The City Agriculture Office managed the agricultural intervention under City Agriculturist Rommel Abuyan. His office supervised the release of the supplies to farmer-beneficiaries at the research center.
Foliar fertilizer is applied directly to plant leaves to supply nutrients needed for growth and development. Fungicide and bactericide products, meanwhile, are used to control plant diseases that can damage crops and reduce yields.
