LUCENA CITY, Quezon – A fresh new chapter is unfolding at the heart of Lucena City's commerce as the Public Market undergoes a major transformation. These significant improvements, spearheaded by the City Government under the leadership of Mayor Mark Alcala, are set to create a more organized, clean, and efficient shopping environment for both vendors and consumers.
The revitalization efforts are a result of continuous renovation and cleaning of the market facility, meticulously overseen by Market Administrator Marianne Yap-Gallardo. These ongoing upgrades are designed to enhance the overall infrastructure and hygiene of the bustling market, aiming to provide a more pleasant and functional space.
A key component of this new organizational strategy is the implementation of a color-coding system for vendor uniforms across various sections of the Public Market, spanning from dry goods to the wet area. This visual distinction is expected to bring a heightened sense of order and significantly improve navigation for shoppers.
Vendors operating in the fish, fruit, and meat sections are now required to wear aprons, boots, and hairnets. This measure is a proactive step by the Lucena Local Government Unit (LGU) to uphold and maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and more organized operations throughout the entire market. Beyond hygiene, this initiative fosters unity, discipline, and a sense of responsibility among vendors, ensuring a safe, clean, and professional interaction with customers.
Both Mayor Mark Alcala and Vice Mayor Dondon Alcala have expressed their full support for these transformative initiatives. They recognize the importance of these efforts in elevating the quality of the shopping experience at the Lucena Public Market. The city's leadership believes these changes will not only benefit the vendors by providing a more structured and supportive environment but also assure consumers of a safer, cleaner, and ultimately more enjoyable market visit.
"This is not just about a facelift; it's about instilling a culture of cleanliness, discipline, and pride in our public market," stated Mayor Mark Alcala. "We are committed to making the Lucena City Public Market a model for others, where both vendors and shoppers feel safe and proud."
Vice Mayor Dondon Alcala echoed the sentiment, adding, "Our public market is a vital part of our city's economy and identity. These improvements reflect our dedication to providing the best possible service and facilities for our constituents. It's an investment in our community's well-being and prosperity."
