SAN ANTONIO, Quezon — Protecting farm animals while strengthening rural livelihoods, the municipal government provided veterinary services to 110 cattle, carabaos, goats and pigs in two farming communities. The two-day medical mission was conducted in Barangays Callejon and Del Valle on August 4 and 5.
Mayor Erick M. Wagan led the municipal initiative in partnership with the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist and the Quezon Provincial Veterinary Office. Municipal Agriculturist Jennifer Lindo Cusi supervised the local agriculture team that brought animal health and reproductive services directly to livestock raisers.
Veterinary personnel administered deworming medicine and vitamins to 52 animals in Barangay Callejon, consisting of 46 cattle, three carabaos and three goats. Two animals underwent estrus synchronization, while one cow received artificial insemination to support managed breeding.
In Barangay Del Valle, the team treated 58 animals comprising 47 cattle, eight carabaos and three pigs. Two animals also underwent estrus synchronization as part of the mission’s reproductive support services.
Deworming and vitamin supplementation help protect livestock from parasites and nutritional deficiencies that can affect their growth, health and productivity. Estrus synchronization and artificial insemination, meanwhile, allow raisers to manage breeding more efficiently and improve the reproductive potential of their herds.
By bringing veterinary assistance closer to the barangays, the program reduced the difficulty of transporting large animals to distant service centers. San Antonio’s municipal government said it would continue delivering agricultural programs that safeguard livestock and strengthen the livelihoods of local farmers and animal raisers.
