LUCENA CITY, Quezon – A powerful demonstration of unity unfolded in Lucena City as diverse forces converged for National Disaster Resilience Month 2025. This two-day event, held last Thursday and Friday, July 10-11, at the SM Lucena 3rd Floor Event Center, showcased an impressive partnership dedicated to fortifying community safety.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) under the leadership of Dr. Melchor P. Avenilla Jr., PGDM-PDRRMO. It echoed the rallying cry, "KUMILOS" or Kayang Umaksyon ng Mamamayan na Isabuhay ang Kahandaan ng Bawat Isa Para Sa Maging Ligtas Sa Oras Ng Sakuna, emphasizing proactive citizen action for disaster safety and preparedness.

The observance was a testament to the strong collaboration between various key organizations. The PDRRMO worked closely with the 404 Community Defense Center 4RCDG RESCOM PA and the 404th Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion (RRIBn), led by Major Eric A. Estidola, CDC Director.

Beyond these core units, a wide array of organizations crucial to disaster response and community safety actively participated, underscoring Lucena City's holistic strategy for bolstering resilience. These included the 59th Infantry "Protector" Battalion, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Philippine Navy, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and numerous non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

A central feature of the observance was a compelling static display and photo exhibit a visual presentation effectively conveyed the core message of "KUMILOS," underscoring the vital role of citizen preparedness for safety and resilience during disasters. The exhibit showcased practical emergency kits, illustrated essential evacuation routes, and depicted community members actively engaged in drills and relief efforts, all designed to inspire readiness among residents.

Lucena City's commitment to cultivating a culture of readiness and resilience among its residents was clearly reflected in the successful execution of this event. By bringing together diverse government agencies, military units, and civilian organizations, the city aims to ensure its communities are well-equipped to face and overcome future challenges posed by natural calamities. This unified effort solidifies Lucena City's dedication to the safety and well-being of its people.
