LUCENA CITY, Quezon – With a resounding call to "KUMILOS" or Kayang Umaksyon ng Mamamayan na Isabuhay ang Kahandaan ng Bawat Isa Para Sa Maging Ligtas Sa Ora's Ng Sakuna, Lucena City rallied its forces to observe National Disaster Resilience Month 2025. This two-day event, held last Thursday and Friday, July 10-11, at the SM Lucena 3rd Floor Event Center, showcased a formidable partnership dedicated to strengthening community safety.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), under the leadership of Dr. Melchor P. Avenilla Jr., PGDM-PDRRMO, spearheaded the initiative. A vital collaboration with the 404 Community Defense Center 4RCDG RESCOM PA and the 404th Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion (RRIBn), led by Major Eric A. Estidola, CDC Director, underscored a unified approach to preparedness.
Broad participation came from various organizations crucial to disaster response and community safety, joining the PDRRMO and military reserve units; 59th Infantry "Protector" Battalion, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Philippine Navy, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and numerous non-governmental organizations (NGOs), all highlighting the city's holistic strategy for bolstering resilience.
A key feature of the observance was a compelling static display and photo exhibit that emphasized the critical role of citizen preparedness for safety and resilience during disasters. These visual presentations effectively communicated the event's central theme: "KUMILOS," showcasing practical emergency kits, illustrating evacuation routes, and depicting community members actively engaged in drills and relief efforts to inspire readiness.
Lucena City's commitment to fostering a culture of readiness and resilience among its residents was reflected in the successful conduct of this event. The city aims to ensure its communities are well-equipped to face and overcome future challenges posed by natural calamities by bringing together various government agencies, military units, and civilian organizations.
