LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Celebrating the pillars of its community, Lucena City has launched its annual "Search For Natatanging Lucenahin 2025," seeking out those who have profoundly shaped its story. The Lucena City Government, through the esteemed Lucena Council For Culture and The Arts (LCCA), under the proactive leadership of Head Dr. Luzviminda Calzado, has officially commenced this rigorous search.
This initiative is designed to posthumously honor exceptional individuals who have not only brought immense distinction but also made profound and lasting contributions to Lucena City across a diverse spectrum of fields. This prestigious recognition is a cornerstone event of the upcoming "Araw ng Lucena" celebrations, which this year will proudly mark the city's 64th anniversary as a chartered city, observed every August 20.
To be considered for this esteemed award, a nominee must fulfill specific criteria: they must either be a natural-born Lucenahin or have demonstrated unwavering dedication to the city by having resided in Lucena for a minimum of fifteen years, coupled with an official recognition as a "son or daughter of the city." The LCCA emphasizes that the impact of their contributions should be clearly evident and widely acknowledged within the community.
Nominations are open across a wide and inclusive range of categories, acknowledging the varied forms of valuable contributions made to the city's progress and cultural richness. These categories encompass: Government or Public Service, Community Service, Performing Arts or Arts and Letters, Sports, Education, Business Entrepreneurs, Trade and Industry, Agriculture, Science and Technology, Public Health, Religion, and Professional endeavors.
This comprehensive scope ensures that individuals from all walks of life who have positively influenced Lucena are given the opportunity to be recognized. Past recipients of the "Natatanging Lucenahin" award have included prominent figures like composer Nilo Alcala for Performing Arts/Music Composition in 2021.
In 2023, individuals such as Fire Officer Jan Vincent Alba for Government/Public Service, Dr. John Bunyan Calamigan III for Community Service, Paul Eric Roca for Visual Arts, Dr. Rowela Caperina for Education, Edna Estifania Co for Professional, Dr. Maria Delta Canela for Medicine, and Rozaldie Chua for Business Entrepreneur, Trade and Industry, were among those honored.
The LCCA strongly encourages all Lucenahins to actively participate in this meaningful search by nominating deserving individuals. For those wishing to put forward a nominee, the process is straightforward: simply send a message to the official Facebook page of the LCCA or visit the LCCA office directly.
The office is conveniently located on the 2nd Floor of the historic Old Lucena City Hall Building in Barangay 5, and can be reached via phone at (042) 660 5126 during business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM). This annual search for outstanding citizens underscores Lucena City's profound commitment to acknowledging, celebrating, and preserving the legacies of its remarkable people, whose tireless efforts and inspiring achievements continue to fuel the city's vibrant progress and ensure its promising future.
