TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon – UST Sentro Turismo officially launched Tagkawayan, Quezon onto a path of sustainable growth recently. This marked the successful turnover of the Sustainable Strategic Tourism Development Plan (SSTDP) to the Municipal Government by the University of Santo Tomas (UST) College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM).
Dubbed "Pagsibol Tagkawayan," the project aims to foster tourism development that benefits both the community and the environment, driving long-term economic prosperity for the town. The comprehensive SSTDP provides Tagkawayan with a holistic approach and a clear roadmap for tourism development over the next ten years.
The dedicated research team for this significant project was led by Project Director CTHM Dean Prof. Gezzez Giezi Granado said. "This plan is more than just a document; it's a shared vision for a thriving Tagkawayan. We believe that through sustainable tourism, we can truly empower the community while safeguarding the natural beauty that makes this place so special."
Prof. Granado also highlighted the collaborative effort that the 'Pagsibol Tagkawayan initiative provides a meticulously crafted blueprint. Its success will be a testament to what dedicated collaboration between the academe and local government can achieve for sustainable development, ensuring benefits for every sector of the community.
"This Sustainable Strategic Tourism Development Plan will provide a clear direction for Tagkawayan's future, and we, as a community, are fully committed to bringing this vision to life for the benefit of all our Tagkawayanin residents," expressed Mayor Luis Oscar "Carlo" Eleazar.
UST Sentro Turismo serves as the primary extension arm of the UST College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, dedicated to leveraging academic expertise for community development. Its core mission involves conducting research, providing technical assistance, and implementing projects that promote sustainable tourism practices, cultural preservation, and economic empowerment in various communities across the Philippines.
Through initiatives like "Pagsibol Tagkawayan," the Sentro Turismo bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, fostering tangible positive impacts on local livelihoods and environments. These efforts ensure that academic insights directly translate into actionable strategies that benefit real-world destinations.
