LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conducts large-scale rescue and evacuation operations across Quezon Province as Super Typhoon Uwan brings strong winds, intense rainfall, and storm surges over the weekend. The agency coordinates with local disaster response units to move residents from coastal and flood-prone barangays into designated evacuation centers before the worst conditions hit.
Teams execute pre-emptive evacuations in low-lying and high-risk areas as authorities raise weather alerts to the highest level. Rescuers transport shoreline residents to higher ground using patrol boats and trucks, ensuring vulnerable families reach evacuation centers safely.
As a result of these early evacuations, authorities report that serious casualties have been prevented during Uwan’s onslaught. Emergency responders continue to prioritize children, elderly citizens, and persons with disabilities during transfers to shelters equipped with basic needs.
Strong winds topple power poles and damage transmission lines, cutting off communication in several towns. Despite the outages, the Coast Guard maintains coordination through radio and satellite links with local command posts to sustain ongoing rescue operations.
Reports indicate that pre-emptive operations have successfully moved residents to safety before floodwaters and strong winds strike. Families who relocate ahead of the typhoon’s landfall weather peak winds inside reinforced public buildings and schools converted into evacuation centers.
This joint effort highlights the strong coordination among government agencies, including the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Gumaca DRG Team, MDRRMO Lopez, BFP Lopez, Philippine Army Reservists, and Community Public Responders. All units work together to ensure timely evacuations, monitor affected areas, distribute relief, and maintain communications to keep residents safe during the typhoon.
Governor Angelina Tan ensures that provincial and municipal disaster teams continue working closely with the Coast Guard in post-typhoon clearing operations. She praises the rapid action of responders, noting that their preparedness protects lives and prevents further damage in affected communities.
Following these coordinated efforts, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directs intensified pre-emptive evacuation and rescue operations. The undertaking focuses on ensuring the safety of residents in identified critical and high-risk areas across Quezon Province.
