LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The importance of communicating urgent messages and announcements to workers and locators has prompted the Provincial Government of Quezon and Smart to strengthen the province’s digital network. Their collaboration focuses on expanding 4D cell site coverage in Atimonan, Gumaca, and Lopez to support the newly introduced STAN Updates Infocast system.
Smart Infocast, which powers the communication platform, is a web-based text-broadcasting service Smart has operated since 2015. It allows institutions to distribute critical information efficiently while enabling registered users to send direct feedback to system administrators.
The program can also transmit free text alerts and connect subscribers through a unique access code, ensuring seamless communication during urgent situations. This setup enables crucial updates to reach all Infocast members, including municipal and barangay disaster risk reduction and management teams.
The additional Smart cell sites provide stronger signal coverage, improved call clarity, and faster data transmission for communities with limited connectivity. These enhancements are particularly valuable for geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) that have long struggled with unstable mobile service.
The improved network allows residents across Quezon to receive timely government announcements, social service advisories, and development updates directly on their mobile devices. With greater consistency and stability, the Infocast platform can function more effectively as a primary information channel for the province.
A key component of the rollout is the web-based Infocast interface, which was introduced during its launch at the Quezon Convention Center. Smart supplies the required technical training, maintenance support, and troubleshooting assistance to ensure the platform runs smoothly.
PLDT and Smart continue to use their nationwide technology infrastructure to advance digital inclusion in underserved communities. The company noted that these efforts support the PLDT Group’s broader commitment to fostering inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable communities.
Smart also promotes the use of technology to help mitigate disaster risks in vulnerable areas through various innovative initiatives. Its preparedness solutions include the Emergency Cell Broadcast System, the Batingaw emergency mobile app, and the TNT Tropang Ready youth readiness caravans.
Beyond emergency alerts, the strengthened communication backbone is expected to improve coordination among government offices and enhance overall response capabilities. It also facilitates digital transactions and supports local enterprise growth by improving access to reliable information.
The Provincial Government plans to install additional Smart cell sites in more remote barangays as part of a long-term digital expansion strategy. This initiative aims to support emerging technologies, enhance e-governance services, and build a more inclusive and connected information ecosystem.
It is a major step toward a technologically capable and future-ready Quezon, reflecting the province’s goal of fostering a more connected, informed, and digitally empowered population. Reliable access to timely information is expected to strengthen development efforts, disaster preparedness, and long-term economic resilience.
