LUCENA CITY, Quezon — Lucena strengthened its role as a major transit point in southern Luzon with the opening of a new electric vehicle (EV) charging hub at PTT Lucena. The facility, developed by ACMobility, sits directly across the Lucena City government complex.
City officials and ACMobility representatives led the launch and emphasized how the facility enhances long-distance EV travel. Mayor Mark Alcala said the project reinforces Lucena’s growing importance in connecting travelers across provinces.
“We are building up Lucena City as a gateway location for wider interregional mobility in the country,” remarked Lucena City Mayor Mark Alcala. “With this new charging infrastructure built at the heart of Lucena, we are enabling more EV owners to travel confidently from South Luzon all the way to Bicol, helping build a more sustainable and connected transport ecosystem.”
The installation comes as motorists increasingly rely on the southern corridor for trips between Manila and Bicol. ACMobility described the station as a critical stopover that fills key gaps along the route and reduces worry about running out of battery during long drives.
The hub features a 120-kW DC fast charger with two charge points for rapid top-ups and a 22-kW AC charger for standard charging. Additional units, including two AC chargers at Giant Lucena along Evo Tourism Road, will also be integrated through the Evro app for locating stations, checking availability, and processing payments.
ACMobility designed the site to support a wider range of electric transport options beyond private vehicles. Its capacity allows future integration of electrified public transport such as e-jeepneys, government fleets, and LGU-led mobility programs.
The city government is studying more LGU-owned sites as potential locations for additional charging stations. Local officials see this expansion as key to modernizing transport services and promoting cleaner, reduced-emission travel.
“Every new station means more freedom for EV drivers to go farther and explore more. We want Filipinos to enjoy the journey as much as the destination, with the confidence that they can charge reliably along the way, anywhere in the country,” stated ACMobility Head of Mobility Infrastructure Carla Buencamino.
With the new charging hub now operational, Lucena is positioning itself as an essential stop along the southern travel corridor. The city is also emerging as an active contributor to the country’s growing electric transport ecosystem.
