SARIAYA, Quezon — More than 500 dogs and cats were recently vaccinated against rabies during a free, massive anti-rabies drive held in Barangay Balubal, Sariaya Quezon. Veterinary services were brought directly to residents in this far-flung community, easing long-standing access concerns.
Spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Quezon through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, the program deployed technical personnel to administer vaccines to household pets across the barangay. More than 220 pet owners benefited as vaccination teams went from purok to purok to ensure wide coverage.
Barangay Captain Anna Erica Banta said the initiative addressed a persistent problem faced by residents, especially those living far from the municipal center. Distance from the municipal center and the large number of dogs and cats per household made regular vaccination difficult for many families.
Support for the activity came from Governor Dr. Helen Tan and the Provincial Veterinary Office led by Dr. Lomel Cagigla, in coordination with local officials and volunteers. The activity supports the provincial government’s program to protect residents and their pets from rabies through regular vaccination.
Barangay leaders expressed their gratitude to all personnel involved in the activity, noting their effort in bringing the service directly to the community. Efforts to bring basic services closer to communities help protect both residents and their pets, especially with the approach of the summer season when rabies risks increase.
