LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Amid concerns over possible increases in prices of basic commodities due to rising fuel costs, the Provincial Government of Quezon has activated Local Price Monitoring and Coordinating Councils to monitor the market and ensure fair pricing. The activation, effective March 13, covers all local government units across the province and aims to maintain stability in the supply of essential goods.
Angelina Tan said the move seeks to safeguard consumers and prevent unjustified price increases as fuel prices continue to fluctuate amid global supply disruptions. Tan added that the directive also supports fuel conservation measures earlier ordered by the provincial government across all sectors.
Tan said rising fuel costs are beginning to affect the prices of basic necessities and prime commodities across local markets. She said these pressures are increasing the financial burden on households as global tensions continue to disrupt supply chains and energy markets.
To address these emerging pressures, the provincial government is strengthening oversight mechanisms to ensure that supply remains stable and prices remain within recommended levels. This includes activating local councils that will serve as frontline monitors of market conditions across the province.
The councils are tasked to monitor the supply, distribution, and prices of essential goods in key trading centers such as Lucena Public Market and other municipal markets across Quezon. They will also coordinate with local price monitoring bodies to ensure that goods remain available and reasonably priced, especially in high-demand areas and transport hubs.
