GUMACA, Quezon — Road quality and traveler safety concerns are prompting closer scrutiny of ongoing road works in Gumaca following continued repair and maintenance activities. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has intensified inspection and monitoring to ensure that contractors comply with required construction and safety standards.
Vivencio “Vince” B. Dizon visited the town to conduct a site inspection of key road sections on March 30, 2026, covering both completed and ongoing infrastructure works. Gumaca Mayor Webster D. Letargo and municipal officials joined the inspection and raised concerns affecting the local road network.
The inspection formed part of routine monitoring of national road projects, with attention given to project quality, implementation, and compliance with technical requirements. Officials reviewed completed sections and identified areas that require corrective work to meet prescribed standards.
Increased travel during the Holy Week period added pressure on major highways and access roads across Quezon Province. Higher traffic volume exposed sections of the road network that require immediate maintenance or reinforcement.
Dizon walked along several segments of the highway to examine their condition and structural strength. He directed attention to areas needing repair or improvement to prevent further deterioration and ensure safe passage for motorists.
The inspection focused on the newly repaired stretch of the Maharlika Highway at the corner of J.P. Rizal Street and A. Bonifacio Street. The project, which began in February, follows standard procedures, including the installation of reinforced steel bars before concrete pouring.
Dizon stressed strict compliance with construction standards and proper implementation of road works across all project sites. He emphasized that failure to meet required specifications could affect road durability and compromise public safety.
Webster D. Letargo raised logistical and operational challenges affecting the town’s road network during the coordination meeting. The DPWH committed to continue working with the local government to address identified issues and improve project delivery.
The inspection highlights ongoing monitoring of infrastructure projects across key provincial corridors and national highways. These measures aim to ensure accountability in project implementation while improving road conditions for motorists and local communities.
Engineering teams and local offices will continue follow-up inspections and monitoring activities in the coming weeks. Additional corrective measures and project adjustments may be implemented to address deficiencies and ensure compliance with standards.
