SARIAYA, QUEZON — Misleading information circulating online has prompted the release of an official statement addressing claims involving the Office of the Municipal Treasurer. The posts include allegations linking the office to cockfighting activities that have been shared online.

In a statement released by the Sariaya Public Information Office on May 4, authorities clarified that the circulating information does not reflect the official position of the Municipal Treasurer’s Office. The advisory highlighted the need to stay alert as false claims continue to spread on social media.

The municipality called on residents to remain careful when reading and sharing information online. It warned that unverified and manipulated content can easily mislead the public and create confusion in the community.

“Ang ganitong uri ng maling impormasyon ay walang katotohanan at lubhang nakapipinsala sa integridad ng aming tanggapan. Ito ay nakaaapekto rin sa tiwala ng mamamayan sa aming opisina,” the statement said.

The statement emphasized that only announcements released through official government channels should be considered accurate and reliable. It stressed that checking information before sharing can help prevent the spread of false and misleading claims.

“Ang sinumang mapapatunayang nagpapalaganap ng false information o fake news ay maaaring managot sa Republic Act 10175 o mas kilala bilang Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012,” the statement added.

The local government also assured constituents of its continued commitment to transparency and accountability in handling public funds. It said that clear procedures in budgeting, accounting, and auditing are followed to ensure the proper use of public resources.

Posts containing unverified claims and alleged links involving the Municipal Treasurer have circulated on social media, reportedly supported by manipulated images and misleading content. No specific individual or group behind the posts has been officially identified, and no formal response has been issued from any source linked to the circulating claims.

In its advisory, the municipality encouraged residents to verify information before sharing and to coordinate directly with authorized government offices. It also urged the public to rely on official channels to ensure accuracy and help prevent the further spread of misinformation.
