LUCENA CITY — Forty Quezon residents underwent free gallbladder removal surgery through a provincial medical program intended for patients unable to afford the procedure. Surgeries were performed from July 25 to 26 at the Quezon Provincial Hospital Network–Quezon Medical Center under its two-day Cholecystectomy Caravan.
Beneficiaries underwent cholecystectomy, a surgical procedure that removes the gallbladder to treat gallstones and other related conditions. Without timely treatment, these conditions may cause persistent abdominal pain, inflammation and complications requiring urgent medical attention.
Quezon’s provincial government conducted the caravan in partnership with East Avenue Medical Center as part of its continuing healthcare initiatives. Medical teams from both institutions provided the surgical expertise, hospital support and patient care required before, during and after each operation.
Cooperation between the two institutions enabled the provincial hospital to deliver a procedure requiring specialized medical personnel, facilities and resources. Patients consequently received the necessary operation without paying its cost or traveling outside Quezon to seek comparable treatment.
Gov. Angelina “Helen” Tan has prioritized programs that expand the range of medical services available to residents throughout the province. With additional medical caravans planned, the provincial government aims to ensure that Quezon residents in need of specialized treatment are not denied care because of financial hardship.
