CALAMBA CITY (PIA) – Thousands of confessed drug users continue to surrender with the Philippine National Police under the government’s unrelenting campaign against illegal drugs. 

The Police Regional Office in Region 4A said a total of 8,159 persons involved in illegal drugs voluntarily surrendered from July 1-10. Rizal Province posted the highest number of surrenderers with 2, 917 followed by Batangas with 2,337; Cavite with 1,448; Laguna with 798 and Quezon with 659. The PRO-4A also reported that from June 1-July 10, of the 1,240 operations on anti-illegal drugs 1,786 persons were arrested, while 1,637.7026 grams of shabu and 8,475.7154 grams of marijuana seized with estimated total street value of P17,410,663.32. At least 70 suspects were recorded killed in action during the operations, the PNP said. Out of those killed, nine were in Batangas, 12 in Cavite, three in Quezon, 18 in Rizal and 28 in Laguna. 

The report said 1,265 cases were filed in court. Chief Supt. Valfrie Tabian, PNP Regional Director in Calabarzon region, said the PNP remains focused in its war against illegal drugs whether among its ranks or against personalities. “We will continuously lead the cleansing and ridding of our ranks of misfits and erring personnel. 

We will be serious in our battle against illegal drugs personalities. We appeal to our community and our stakeholders for their support and cooperation so that together we will win this battle,” he said. Tabian has ordered a weekly monitoring and performance audit of all unit commanders in their anti-illegal drug operations. Meanwhile, of the 11,675 PNP personnel of PRO4A, some 3,953 had already undergone random drug test where two personnel from Batangas PPO and one from Quezon PPO were found positive in their initial urine drug test.
