TRECE MARTIRES, Cavite (PIA) – The Department of Interior and Local Government thru the Local Government Capability Development Division-Manila Bay Regional Task Group (LGCDO-MBRG) in coordination with the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) headed by Engr. Rolinio Pozas recently conducted a three day writeshop conference.
The conference dubbed as Writeshop on the Formulation of Solid Waste Management Plan of Cavite Local Government Units was in compliance to the Supreme Court mandamus (GR Nos. 17947-48) to clean and rehabilitate Manila Bay.
Held at the Bali Village Hotel and Resort in Tagaytay City, the three day writeshop was participated in by LGUs in Cavite which were divided into three groups scheduled per day.
The first day was attended by LGUs from Amadeo, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Naic, Rosario, Silang, Tanza and Ternate. LGUs from Sta. Maria (Laguna), Alfonso, Cavite City, Noveleta, General Trias and Trece Martires City were participants on the second day while representatives from the cities of Dasmariñas, Tagaytay and Imus, municipalities of Kawit, Maragondon, Magallanes, Mendez and Ternate were in attendance on the third day.
During the opening ceremonies, LGCOO Chief of DILG IV-A Ms. Eloisa Rozul expressed her optimism as she welcomed and recognized the participants of the writeshop saying that Cavite will achieve 100% in the preparation and submission of their Ten-Year Solid Waste Management Plan.
In support to Ms. Rozul’s optimism, Mr. Ryan Geronimo, Manila Bay Focal Person, DILG Cavite, explained that the department collaborated with the National Solid Waste Management Commission in formulating and crafting the SWMP to help LGUs comply with the Solid Waste Management Act. The technical capabilities that they want to share will help in making the plans feasible.
The participants were assisted by Mr.Jeff Parales of the National Solid Waste Commission as he answered queries and shared all that can be done for their plan to be approved by the NSWMC starting from the requirements to safe closure of dump sites, documentation/evaluation, pictures that should be identified, what to prioritize, and many other things including additional table of implementation.
Likewise, Engr. Ruperto Arca and Mr. Vonn Ernest F. Javier of PG-ENRO helped in assisting the LGUs in their plan formulation.
The attendees were composed of officers of DILG IV-A, National Solid Waste Management Commission, Manila Bay Regional Task Force DILG Cavite, C/MENROs and staff of the 23 cities/municipalities, Technical Working Group (TWG) of the Provincial Solid Waste Management Board (PSWMB) composed of PPDO, PIO, OPA, DENR and PG-ENRO.
