CALAMBA, Laguna (PIA) – More than 100 individuals representing various ethnic groups in the country have formulated a resolution on the issue of environmental conservation and protection.

The resolution is the product of the recently concluded National Summit on Environment Conservation and Protection Issues conducted by the Commission on the Filipino Language (CFL) held on 26-28 October 2016 at the Philippine High School for the Arts, Mount Makiling, Los Banos, Laguna.

Based on Resolution No. 1-2016, indigenous knowledge and methods will be used to protect the environment, prevent calamity and disaster caused by negligence and abuse of people, and of climate change as well.

The resolution was a result of a series of discussion during the gathering of indigenous leaders composed of datu, bae, maaram, binukot, educators and students.

Included in the resolution was the proposal from the Office of the President to continuously use Filipino and other native languages in the belief that this would facilitate provision and delivery of public service.

The resolution has been recommended to agencies related to environment conservation and protection such as the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP), Department of Natural Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, etc.

Senator Loren Legarda was the keynote speaker and experts on environmental conservation and protection from DSWD, DENR and DSWD served as resource speakers.

The CFL is highly positive that the summit could create a comprehensive book of compilation of indigenous/native knowledge and method on environment conservation and protection.

Moreover, as a result of a National Peace Summit held in Bukidnon, a book on “Kapayapaan sa Ilang Wika ng Filipinas” was launched here together with the launching of “Atlas ng mga Wika sa Pilipinas.” Research work and printing of said books was in part supported by the Office of Senator Legarda.(ACO/CFL)
