50 drug surrenderers complete training on firefighting & rescue

LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Around 50 drug surrenderers attended the graduation rites at the Quadrangle, Training Center 4, Camp Nakar, Lucena City on June 19 upon completing the 15-day training on firefighting and rescue operation. The program which is called “Yakap Bayan project” aims to help the drug surrenderees to improve their quality of life by giving them skills/livelihood trainings. According to PSSupt. Roderick Armamento, OIC-Provincial Director of Quezon PNP, this was conducted by the Quezon Police Provincial Office in partnership with the provincial government of Quezon through the Provincial Disaster Risk reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in line with the intensified campaign of the government against illegal drugs.

“This project is part of the continuous campaign of the government for a safety community”, Armamento added.

The BFP representatives shared their knowledge and expertise on fire fighting to said drug surrendeees while the PDRRMO shared their skills on rescue operation. The 50 drug surrenderees who came from different towns/ cities of Quezon province also underwent a livelihood skills trainings conducted by the technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA-Quezon). Said drug surrenderers who are now called rescuers will soon become partners of local government units in time of disaster operation and they will be entitled to receive an honorarium from LGUs. Aside from Armamento, Webster Letargo who represented Quezon Governor Suarez; ASEC for special concern of DSWD Anton R. Hernandez and other officials of Quezon PNP also attended the graduation ceremonies.

Part II of the program was the blessing and opening of the Quezon PNP health service and infirmary which was led by Rev. Fr. Jaytee Talabong; ASEC Hernandez and PSSupt. Armamento. (GG/R.Orinday/ PIA-Quezon)
