All Filipino women are now taking the lead in achieving success and speaking out the feminist voice for freedom of speech, democracy and women’s rights amidst amid news of rape, molestation, sexual abuse and all attempts by some quarters to destroyed and undermine their pursuit of power.

According to Sen. Leila M. de Lima not just Filipino women, but women all over the world are always among the first to speak out against oppression and they are the loudest and bravest in their opposition whenever human rights and democracy are under siege.

Women are still oppressed to the point that even if raped, the victims are the ones who are blamed.

Admit it until women have the same unquestionable right to body autonomy that men enjoy, we will never be equal. Women’s right is the need to see women as real people not as a sex object. All women actually suffer sexism.

You see, parents tell their teenage daughter not to dress provocatively to avoid external attention.

Is provocative clothing ever plays a role in rape?

Women don’t cause rape by what they wear.

Sexual abuse is never the victim’s fault. Sometimes people blame victims of rape. Somebody needs to act to commit rape. Nobody constrains that decision. If a man see an alluring woman and led men to rape her and conclude, “I’ve got to rape her,” all men would be rapists. Yet few are.

As if the victim doesn’t endure enough when they’re raped, they get assaulted all over again by the rapist’s defense attorney in court. Just a small sample of questions/comments the victim gets blasted with on the stand:

“Why were you out that time of night?”

“Why did you go to that bar/restaurant/party/concert?”

“Do you always dress that way?”

“Why didn’t you immediately report it/tell someone about it?”

“So you’ve had multiple sex partners in the last month?”

“Seems my client is the type of man you pursue.”

And that’s just a fraction of the insulting offensive questions and slurs a victim has to endure, in front of her relatives and friends in court.

According to reports plenty of assaulted women are not dressed sexily, including women draped in head-to-toe burqas. Interestingly, veiled women are blamed, too: “He must have seen a bit of her ankle, wrist, hair, neck… Who could resist!?” Strippers are the most sexually “provocative” of all, yet patrons manage to contain themselves. Yes, bouncers provide security, but they aren’t stationed with blinders blocking their sight. And who’s watching them? Male customers aren’t physically restrained. The men are actually controlling themselves.

Are women entitled to do what they like? No all.

Women shouldn’t go to parties wearing provocative sexy clothing or they will be raped?

Women shouldn’t drink too much alcohol or they will be raped?

Woman shouldn’t go outside alone late at night or they will be raped?

I think society today places limitations on women. While women in certainly have many opportunities today in employment, education and other areas, they still face problems and limitations, and the “average” woman hardly fits the usual stereotype. Many girls have ever been told they shouldn’t do something because they are a girl. Women should feel supported and motivated to pursue their passions.

To men and boys not fully understand how to show the respect a woman deserve. Any time you interact with people, including girls, you should strive to be as respectful as possible please. Learn to respect the bodies, emotions, and opinions of girls, and to speak to them in a way that shows you care about their thoughts and feelings.
