BAY, Laguna – The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Dila in the town of Bay launched its online market called ‘Talipapa Online’ last April 25.

The youth leaders of SK Dila came up with the ‘Talipapa Online’ project that aims to provide residents of Bay with access to market products through online means and delivery service that may reduce the number of residents going to the public market.

“We saw the need to lessen the number of people going out to buy food in Bay Public Market. After I consulted my SK Councilor Kevin Bicoy, who happened to be a market vendor, about the daily situation of our public market, he said that it was different than before ECQ was announced,” SK Dila Chairperson Roy Padrid explained.

Based on observation, he said the number of people going to the Bay Public Market every morning was tripled because of the limited window hour implemented in the town.

Also, in the first few weeks of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) people were lining up for about 500 meters away from the market entrance in order to follow the social distancing protocol.

“So after weeks of brainstorming with my SK Council, together with our youth volunteers, we initiated a project for an online palengke.” he recounted.

After weeks of conceptualization they finally came up with the project ‘Talipapa Online.’

Talipapa online ordering process

Talipapa Online is an online marketing platform to order raw food or ready-to-cook food in a talipapa set-up, he said.

The concept of the project is basically like a ‘talipapa’ or a mini market where small-scale vendors come together to sell vegetables and meat but, in this case, in an online system.

“We consolidate the orders, then we will give it to our suppliers (and) they will be the one to ship out to the customers.”

There are three ways to place orders such as: (1) Chat orders to the Official Facebook Page of Serbisyong Pangbaranggay Dila; or (2) Text orders to +63 921 571 3506; or (3) fill-out an online ordering form from this link, https://bit.ly/SKTalipapaOnline.

Deliveries shall be done only twice every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays subject to a delivery charge depending on the supplier. While the cut-off of ordering is at 4PM every Monday and Wednesday.

Padrid is hands-on with the project, he shared, “I'm the one personally maintaining all its platforms, replying to all text messages, and relaying all orders to our suppliers.”

He said they are in the course of checking and observing its accessibility to consumers and the behavior of its target market since the project has started only less than a week ago.

The good thing is their project was well-patronized by consumers despite of their limitations in terms of manpower that kept them from doing daily delivery, same-day deliveries, or cater households who do not have a refrigerator or any means to preserve and buy bulk supplies for a couple of days.

“The Facebook feedback we’re quite overwhelming on the first day of its launch. So far so good.”

Call for support

The SK Chair appeals to all Bayeños to support the project that will not only benefit the consumers but even the local farmers and suppliers.

“By using ‘talipapa online,’ we help our local farmers and local suppliers and we can avoid going out from our home that was said to be the safest place in avoiding the virus,” he pronounced.

This is also one of the multiple ways citizens may contribute to flattening the curve as we battle against the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

“Thus, while we continue to demand our national government for mass testing, we should stay at home and avoid mass gatherings, to help everybody not just our government, but also our health workers and frontliners, to flatten the curve.”

Everyone must take part in helping the community to rise against this virus and patronizing projects like this ‘Talipapa Online’ is one instrumental way to do so. (Joy Gabrido)
