BATANGAS CITY - In this era of the COVID 19 pandemic, good leadership will be seen through the strict implementation of safety protocols to combat this disease and address the needs and well-being of its constituents.

This has been demonstrated by Barangay 24 in Batangas City, where it remains COVID-free due to the smooth administration of its leader in the person of President Emma Tumambing.

This barangay has 4,217 residents, 1,170 families, and 789 households.

They have 35 border guards implementing precautionary measures. The barangay has only one entrance and exit, with foot bath and alcohol as disinfectants for the residents. Only quarantine passes and authorized workers are permitted to leave and enter their premises.

People are also constantly reminded of clean up the environment and strengthen their immune systems.

They are coordinating with the Batangas City PNP on the tighter implementation of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) guidelines for some of their not abiding residents.

The senior citizen's building has been converted into a barangay quarantine facility, which has temporarily become a temporary shelter for its residents to come from another location before returning home. Before going inside, they were asked to bathe at the gate of the village and disinfect their belongings.

Tumambing also mentioned that for 14 days, the OFWs that were negative in the swabtest result had been voluntarily quarantining in their home.

They celebrated Fiesta June 12, by holding a procession.

They will travel by taking in the Blessed Virgin of Fatima as well as Senor Nazareno and Sto Nino Patrol. There is also a priest sprinkling holy water on the residents who are waiting in the street.

Residents are also encouraged to place an altar in front of their home in solidarity with such sacred work.

The leadership of the village has ensured that social distances are strictly enforced.

“Ours is not a perfect barangay and I am not a perfect Kapitana, pero ipinaparamdam ko sa kanila ang aking pagkalinga at pagmamalasakit. Matindi din ang aking pananampalataya at pananalangin sa Maykapal upang kami ay manatiling ligtas sa covid,” says Tumambing.

He is very grateful to the City Government for their support, such as the regular inspection of their area and the assistance provided by Mayor Beverley Dimacuha during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

He also thanked the Barangay officials for their good work and the cooperation of their constituents in helping them to keep their village safe from this virus. (with reports from PIO Batangas City)
