CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – With the aim to boost the Agri-Fishery Industry even amid the pandemic, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 4A (BFAR 4A) had been offering fisheries and aquatic-related e-learning courses for free.

The agency most recently opened its second batch of free online courses on Fish Processing and Value-Added Products last June 23 and Training on Breeding and Culture of Tilapia to be held this coming June 30.

“As part of continuing efforts, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources IV-A Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination Division, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, is still motivated by providing e-learning courses thru teleconferencing and other media platforms will be utilized in order to provide quality and comprehensive learning experience during this period of Enhanced Community Quarantine and Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (now General Community Quarantine),” Sammy A. Malvas, Regional Director of BFAR 4A, stated.

The free e-learning courses offered by the agency are open to anyone who can read and write, and has internet access.

This initiative is aimed at showcasing fisheries technology which participants can apply in the comfort of their homes, as well as providing them with access to related training by adapting to the digital media as a mode of learning.

These e-learning courses are intended to help individuals who are planning to establish a business in the fisheries and aquatic industry, as well as students, professionals, or fish enthusiasts who want to enhance their knowledge on culturing specific fish species and aquatic resource.

BFAR 4A provided 60 slots for the interested learners of each of the e-learning course offerings.

The first batch of e-learning courses previously offered by the agency was the Organic Agriculture on June 3, 2020; Training on Breeding and Culture of Freshwater Ornamental Fish, June 9; and Training on Aquaponics, June 17.

The participants only need to download the Cisco Webex Application in their preferred device, either Windows PC, IOS device, or Android device.

While they obtain their training modules and e-Certificate through their Gmail account 2 to 3 days after the online training.

“We hope that through this Training Program you will learn more about the technologies in fisheries that we offer, and not only learn but put this into action by applying the learnings you gain. With this, you will partake in the development of our Fisheries Industry which encourages abundant harvest and greater earnings,” the statement from BFAR 4A indicates.

The different programs of BFAR 4A, including this free e-learning, uphold their commitment to sustain the food supply chain in the agri-fishery sector and prevent food shortage during the most challenging times like this pandemic. (Joy Gabrido/PIA4A)
