LUCENA CITY, Quezon - As the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on October 30 approach, many leaders urge voters in the province to carefully consider the qualifications and track records of the candidates before casting their votes, and Rep. David "Jayjay" Suarez of the second district of Quezon Province is one of them.

Suarez discusses the significance of choosing leaders who sincerely care about the welfare and needs of the people during the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) payout in Lucena City on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

In his speech, he stated that it is critical for the community to elect leaders who prioritize the needs and welfare of the people, as they will shape the future of their barangays and youth councils.

He believes that electing the right leaders for barangay and youth councils is crucial to ensuring the development and progress of the community, as the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan are very important units of the local government system.

He also warned not to believe in empty promises and grandiose speeches during election campaigns but to instead look at the track record and actions of the candidates, “If you make a mistake in choosing a candidate, you will regret it for two years,” Suarez said.

According to him, the youth should also actively participate in the election process and choose candidates who have a strong commitment to serving their constituents.

Suarez emphasized that youth have the power to shape the future of their communities by electing candidates who prioritize the needs and concerns of their constituents.

He urged them to research and evaluate the candidates' past achievements and contributions to ensure that they are dedicated to public service. Participating in the election process, the youth can help create a government that truly represents their interests and aspirations.

The AICS program, led by Speaker Martin Romualdez, Rex Gatchalian, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, benefited 1,400 people in Lucena City on Tuesday.

Suarez expressed his gratitude to Speaker Martin Romualdez and Secretary Rex Gatchalian for their support in implementing the AICS program. His commitment is to continue working towards improving the lives of his constituents through various initiatives and programs.

Meanwhile, the BSKE political campaigns started on October 19, 2023, with candidates vying for positions in their respective barangays and youth councils, and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has been closely monitoring the campaign activities to ensure a fair and peaceful election process.

The COMELEC has also reminded candidates and their supporters to adhere to the rules and regulations set forth to maintain a level playing field for all contenders.

According to COMELEC, political campaigns will be conducted through mainstream media such as cable television, radio, newspapers, and the internet, all subject to the electoral commission's limitations on authorized candidate expenses, truth in advertising, and other relevant regulations.

In the event that the candidate decides to utilize his or her own social media platforms to conduct live streaming and other audience-building activities, this will be considered a form of e-rally and will also be subject to the same regulations set by COMELEC.

Candidates also must ensure that their social media activities comply with laws regarding privacy, defamation, and other legal considerations to avoid any potential legal repercussions.

The candidates who violate posting guidelines shall receive a Notice to Remove and Show Cause Order from the designated Election Officer of the COMELEC to be supervised by the Task Force Anti-Epal. Operation Baklas, or the removal of unlawful campaign materials, will take place from October 20 to 27.
