GUMACA, Quezon – For the first time ever, the local government of Gumaca, Quezon, led by Mayor Webster Letargo, has successfully implemented the Senior Citizen Graduates Incentive Ordinance. This landmark initiative recognized and rewarded 14 elderly individuals who achieved educational milestones despite their age.

Authored by Councilor Carlo Mendoza and supported by the entire Sangguniang Bayan, led by Vice Mayor Rico J. Bañal, this initiative underscores the importance of lifelong learning. It serves as an inspiration to the community, demonstrating that education is accessible to everyone, regardless of their life stage.

The beneficiaries graduated from various educational levels, including elementary, secondary, college, and the Alternative Learning System (ALS). This diverse representation underscores the program's commitment to recognizing learning in all its forms. Thirteen senior graduates received an incentive of ₱35,000 each, while one elementary graduate was awarded ₱20,000.

Mayor Webster Letargo expressed his pride in the graduates and the program, stating that senior citizens are a wellspring of wisdom and an enduring source of inspiration. He highlighted that this incentive program is the town's way of celebrating their unwavering spirit and demonstrating that learning knows no age, truly exemplifying their commitment to the well-being and continued growth of every Gumaqueño, and proving that it's never too late to achieve one's dreams.

"This program is a testament to the Gumaca local government's deep care for its senior citizens and an acknowledgment of their determination, perseverance, and unwavering pursuit of knowledge. It perfectly reflects the community's respect for wisdom gained through enduring commitment. My administration remains dedicated to empowering all citizens to reach their full potential." said Mayor Letargo.

Councilor Carlo Mendoza, the proponent of the ordinance, shared his vision behind the initiative. "We believe that education is a continuous journey. This ordinance is not just about financial incentives; it's about validating the efforts of our seniors and encouraging others to pursue learning at any stage of life. It sends a powerful message that their pursuit of knowledge is highly valued by our community."

The ordinance, a collaborative effort with the full support of the Sangguniang Bayan, represents a proactive step by the local government to foster an environment where educational achievements are celebrated and opportunities for growth remain abundant for all residents. Such teamwork ensures that innovative programs like this can truly come to fruition for the benefit of the populace.

"Seeing the joy and pride in the eyes of our senior graduates is incredibly rewarding. This program truly embodies our shared belief that an educated citizenry, regardless of age, is the foundation of a progressive and compassionate Gumaca. We hope their success will inspire generations to come." he added.

Under the leadership of Mayor Letargo, the local government continues to champion programs that uphold education, hope, and the success of every Gumaqueño. This commitment ensures that Gumaca remains a place where aspiration and accomplishment are consistently fostered.
