Local government officials in Tagkawayan complete a five-day advanced training on disaster preparedness, further strengthening the town's response capabilities. (Tagkawayan PIO) |
TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon – Building on its commitment to safeguarding its residents, the local government of Tagkawayan recently completed a five-day advanced training on disaster preparedness. The Integrated Planning Course on Incident Command System (ICS) Level 2 was held in Tayabas City from May 25 to 30, 2025.
The training, organized by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Tagkawayan, was attended by members of the Tagkawayan Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (LDRRMC). MDRRMO III Bayani A. Garcia spearheaded local coordination efforts, with oversight from the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Region IV-A and the Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
Mayor Carlo Eleazar highlighted the training's objective, stating, "Our goal is to elevate the level of disaster response in our town." He further emphasized, "Disaster preparedness is not just about responding to emergencies, but also about preventing and mitigating the impact of disasters on our communities."
The course covered advanced ICS principles and integrated planning, equipping participants with the necessary skills to enhance the town's disaster preparedness. Mayor Eleazar added, "By investing in the capacity of our personnel, we are investing in the safety and well-being of our residents. This training is a crucial step towards building a resilient Tagkawayan."
The training faculty consisted of seasoned experts, including Frederick M. Bragas from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) IV-A, Richard T. Quion from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Bacoor, Cavite, and Christopher C. Antona, William Edzar B. Lipit, and Guillermo Bonafart S. Rago III from the Quezon PDRRMO.
This training is part of Tagkawayan's ongoing efforts to improve its disaster response capabilities. With another five-day training session scheduled for mid-June 2025, Mayor Eleazar reiterated, "We will continue to prioritize disaster preparedness and response, ensuring that our town is always ready to face any challenge that comes our way."
