LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Mayor Mark Alcala recently led the distribution of renewal permits to over 100 motorized tricycle operators at the Lucena City Convention Center. The ceremony marked another milestone in the city government's efforts to support public transportation and ensure the welfare of tricycle operators.

The distribution was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the city government, the Tricycle Franchising and Regulatory Office (TFRRO), and the Land Transportation Office (LTO). TFRRO head Criselda David expressed her gratitude to the mayor and the LTO for their support in streamlining the permitting process.

Also present during the event were Rogelio Traquena, PMBL Federation President Enrico Sales, and LTO Lucena District Office OIC Chief Franz Salamat. Salamat emphasized the importance of adhering to existing LTO regulations and the strict implementation of rules against colorum tricycle operators.

Mayor Alcala highlighted potential solutions to reduce traffic congestion in the city, including discipline and organization among tricycle operators, and exercising patience and understanding towards passengers. He also urged the operators to protect the image of public transportation in Lucena.

"The city government is committed to providing a safe and efficient public transportation system for our citizens," Alcala said. "We will continue to work with our partners to ensure that our tricycle operators are properly regulated and equipped to provide quality service."

The event also featured the symbolic signing of a memorandum of agreement between the LTO and the local government unit (LGU) to provide plates for tricycle operators with franchises. This initiative aims to further regulate the tricycle industry and enhance the safety of both operators and passengers.

The tricycle operators from various barangays in the city warmly received their permits, expressing gratitude for the support provided by the city government. The distribution of permits demonstrates the LGU's continued commitment to promoting order, safety, and welfare among public transportation operators despite the challenges they face daily.
