ATIMONAN, Quezon - A lack of technical skills and start-up capital often limits the potential for small-scale entrepreneurs, but a recent government initiative is helping to turn the tide against economic challenges in Atimonan. This was addressed on August 29, 2025, when the Quezon Provincial Government provided a Meat Processing Seminar to residents to equip them with the tools needed to build sustainable livelihoods.

The initiative to organize the livelihood seminar in Atimonan was realized through the collaboration of the Quezon Provincial Government and its Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV). The event saw active participation from key local stakeholders, including the Atimonan RIC, Atimonan Livestock Raisers Federation, and the Atimonan Hog Raiser Association.

Led by the Livestock and Poultry Development Division of the OPV, the activity provided participants with essential knowledge and skills in proper meat processing, food safety practices, and simple packaging techniques. The training curriculum included practical lessons on making popular products such as Pork Nuggets, Corned Pork, Commercial Hamburger, and Sweet Longganisa.

“This initiative not only equips Atimonan participants with valuable skills but also gives them a direct path to a sustainable livelihood right here in their community,” said Dr. Maria Ocampo, a representative from the OPV. "We are committed to helping our citizens become self-reliant and innovative entrepreneurs."

To provide tangible support for their newly acquired knowledge, the Provincial Government also distributed a Start-Up Capital from its 20% Development Fund. This seed money is intended to serve as initial investment for the beneficiaries, helping them establish and sustain an alternative source of income.

The OPV continues to promote these livelihood programs in towns across the province as part of a broader mission to expand economic opportunities and develop the capabilities of citizens. The project highlights the strong partnership between the local government and its constituents in promoting economic empowerment and building a more resilient local economy in Atimonan.
