PAGBILAO, Quezon - Months of DRRM training came into focus as Barangay Health Workers and Tanod tackled real emergency scenarios during the recent 3rd DRRM Rescue Olympics in Pagbilao. Participants from twenty-seven barangays completed rescue, first aid, and firefighting drills that highlighted their improving response skills.
Throughout the drills, the physically demanding tasks—such as bucket relay, hose laying, and busted hose replacement—highlighted the teamwork and stamina required in real disasters. Judges from the Philippine Coast Guard–Southern Quezon applied their emergency response expertise to deliver a fair, professional evaluation.
Mayor Angelica "Ate Gigi" Portes-Tatlonghari lauded the participants for their dedication and described the Rescue Olympics as a clear reflection of barangay preparedness. She encouraged them to share their strengthened skills within their communities to broaden readiness at the grassroots level.
“Preparedness begins in the barangay, and every skill you learn here must reach your community,” said Mayor Portes. “Even without a large budget, you can strengthen readiness through consistent, simple training,” she added. “What matters most is our shared commitment to building a safer and more resilient town,” the mayor emphasized.
Disaster readiness remains a shared responsibility for both the LGU and barangay responders, who must continue practicing beyond scheduled activities. By reinforcing coordination and steady learning, Pagbilao strengthens its ability as a community to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies.
The 3rd DRRM Rescue Olympics affirmed the dedication of Pagbilao’s BHWs and Tanod, who remain central to the municipality’s disaster response. Their unified effort reinforced the commitment of the LGU, MDRRMO, and barangay leaders to building a prepared and resilient Pagbilao.
