LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The aroma of freshly brewed coffee welcomed guests at the Calabarzon Coffee Expo 2025 recently at the Quezon Convention Center. More than a trade gathering, the event showcased the region’s identity shaped by its soil, farmers, and growing coffee community.
With the theme “Kape sa Timog,” the expo gathered farmers, MSMEs, baristas, and industry partners for the 2nd Quezon Coffee Summit and Coffee Congress. It created a space for stakeholders to exchange ideas and strengthen partnerships that support the region’s coffee industry.
Calabarzon is a major coffee-growing region, producing Liberica, Robusta, and Arabica beans. These beans help support local families and shape the region’s coffee culture. Farmers, however, still face problems like unstable prices and limited resources.
Governor Angelina "Helen" Tan highlighted the industry’s potential and the region’s role in supporting high-value crops. She noted its quality, economic promise, and cultural value, affirming that coffee is one of the country’s most notable high-value crops.
The governor emphasized that sustained collaboration between government agencies and local growers is vital to keep the industry moving forward. She noted that collective effort will help the region strengthen its presence in both local and international markets.
The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), led by Dr. Lisa Mariano, organized a coffee toast, a commitment signing, and the Calabarzon Coffee Quality Competition. The competition honored top producers and promoted better quality practices.
MSMEs showcased value-added coffee products and innovations, highlighting their role in linking consumers to local farmers and shaping the region’s growing coffee culture. As demand for local specialty coffee grows, Calabarzon hopes to play a bigger role in the national coffee industry by working together and continuing to innovate.
