LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Governor Angelina “Helen” de Luna Tan attended a congressional hearing on the implementation of the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act and health systems financing. The session looked into the current progress of the law and the need for continued support to improve national health services.
Enacted in 2019, the UHC Act ensures that all Filipinos are automatically covered by the national health insurance program. It also calls for coordinated work among PhilHealth, the Department of Health, and local governments to provide accessible and affordable healthcare for all.
To monitor how the UHC law is being carried out, Congress holds hearings from time to time. These reviews help guide policy decisions that aim to improve health services and address problems in putting the law into practice.
Governor Tan was joined by 4K Party-list Representative Iris Marie Montes and Quezon Provincial Health Officer Dr. Christine May Jean B. Sanyor. PhilHealth President Edwin Mercado and DOH Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo were also present, stressing the importance of securing long-term financing for key health programs.
As one of the principal authors of the UHC Act, Governor Tan highlighted the value of ongoing discussions to make sure the law is carried out effectively. She stressed that improving healthcare services remains a priority to guarantee access to quality and affordable care for every Filipino.
Governor Tan reaffirmed her commitment to supporting reforms that strengthen the country’s health system. She said that cooperation between national agencies and local governments is essential to reach underserved communities and achieve the full promise of Universal Health Care.
