INFANTA, Quezon — As the town welcomed the new year, Infanta launched a program offering free birthday cakes to senior citizens. The initiative recognizes the long-standing contributions of senior citizens to the community.
Implementation began at the start of the year, allowing the municipality to honor elderly residents born on the same date. On the first day, program staff delivered birthday cakes, a short prayer, and a traditional harana to 47 senior citizens.
Municipal Ordinance No. 33, Series of 2025, provides the legal framework for the initiative and establishes the birthday cake program as a continuing local government service. The ordinance authorizes program implementation across the municipality.
Infanta continues to serve a growing number of registered senior citizens through various local government programs. The birthday cake initiative supports existing efforts that promote senior welfare, inclusion, and community recognition.
Mayor Lord Arnel "L.A." Ruanto said the initiative reflects the local government’s aim to help senior citizens feel remembered and valued. He added that simple gestures help strengthen emotional and social well-being.
Municipal records indicate that within the first week of implementation, program staff delivered birthday cakes to 145 registered senior citizens. Each delivery included a serenade and a prayer as part of the birthday observance.
Under the ordinance, all registered senior citizens residing in Infanta qualify to receive a birthday cake on their birthday. Municipal offices identify beneficiaries using the official senior citizens registry.
The Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs leads program implementation in coordination with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office. Beyond birthday celebrations, the program reflects the town’s continuing care for its elderly residents.
The municipal government funds the program through the General Fund under the approved annual local budget. Officials said the local government will continue the program as a regular municipal service in line with the ordinance.
