SARIAYA, Quezon - Farmers in Barangay Mamala Uno, Sariaya harvested cabbage, cauliflower, Chinese cabbage, and broccoli during a Harvest Festival led by the Provincial Government of Quezon on February 17. Marking a major breakthrough for the community, local growers successfully produced high-value vegetables in the area for the first time.

The harvest on display reflected the steady support farmers received under the High-Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP), which equipped them with quality seeds and hands-on technical guidance throughout the planting season. With improved crop management and higher yields, growers began seeing stronger earning potential while contributing to a more stable and reliable local food supply.

Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Ana Clarissa Mariano credited the farmers’ discipline and the strong partnership between the provincial government and local stakeholders for the successful outcome of the project. She reaffirmed her office’s continuing commitment to sustain technical assistance and further strengthen vegetable production in the area.

“We will continue to guide and support our farmers so they can improve their harvest and increase their income. Consistent training and field supervision will help farmers maintain crop quality and meet market demand," Mariano said.

Through the HVCDP, the provincial government supplied quality seeds and delivered hands-on technical guidance to participating farmers throughout the entire growing cycle. Agricultural technicians worked closely with growers from land preparation to harvest to improve both the quality and overall volume of their produce.

Early harvest results in Mamala Uno demonstrate how structured government intervention can accelerate agricultural progress at the grassroots level and create tangible results for farming families. Provincial officials consider the project a practical working model that can be replicated in other farming communities across Quezon.

Governor Angelina “Helen” Tan prioritizes agriculture as a core development pillar of the province, recognizing its critical role in food security, job creation, and long-term rural economic growth. Her administration continues to allocate resources and expand targeted, field-based programs that increase food production, raise farm incomes, and promote farm-based tourism opportunities.

Despite rainy weather and muddy roads, members of the Mamala Uno Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (MUFAC) gathered at the farm site to celebrate the milestone harvest together with provincial officials. Stacks of freshly harvested vegetables lined the makeshift tables, underscoring how the crops thrived in the area’s fertile soil and favorable growing conditions.

Beyond celebrating a first harvest, the festival illustrated how coordinated planning, continuous training, and active farmer participation can deliver measurable and sustainable results. Provincial leaders expressed confidence that similar high-value crop initiatives can gradually transform other agricultural communities throughout Quezon Province.
