LOPEZ, Quezon — Stronger harvest prospects are in focus after a rice varietal trial identified suitable seed options for fields in Barangay Bagacay, Lopez, Quezon. Findings aim to equip farmers with choices that perform well in local climate and soil conditions.
The trial was conducted on April 29 with support from Philippine Rice Research Institute in coordination with local agriculture officials who worked closely with farmers in the area. It looked at how different rice varieties grow, cope with local weather, and produce under actual field conditions in the barangay.
Fifteen rice varieties were planted and monitored under usual farming conditions in Barangay Bagacay. Observations focused on plant growth, how well crops handled changing weather, and how consistent the harvest results were.
These observations helped identify which rice varieties performed best under local conditions during the trial period. Results provided a clear basis for selecting the most suitable options for farmers in the area.
Five rice varieties stood out based on their performance in the field. These were Rc670, Rc740, Rc626, Rc480, and Rc678, which delivered the most promising results among those tested.
Each selected variety showed steady growth and held up well under actual field conditions during the trial period. These traits point to better yields and more reliable harvests for farmers working in similar environments.
Part of the initiative supports the continuing efforts of the local government of Lopez to assist the agriculture sector and local farmers. It also aims to guide farmers in selecting suitable rice varieties that can increase productivity and farm income.
