INFANTA, Quezon – Awareness on the benefits granted under Republic Act 11861 was strengthened during an orientation conducted for Solo Parent Champions in the municipality. Included in the discussion were the 10-percent discount and tax exemptions available to qualified solo parents under the law.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) conducted the activity as part of the municipality’s observance of National Solo Parents’ Day. Discussions focused on the benefits and privileges granted to solo parents and their children under the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act and existing municipal ordinances.
Topics discussed during the orientation included the discounts, assistance, and other privileges that should be provided by establishments under the law. Qualified solo parents earning less than PHP250,000 annually are entitled to a 10-percent discount and value-added tax exemption on selected child-related necessities and services under RA 11861.
Participants were also briefed on parental leave benefits, educational assistance, PhilHealth coverage, and other social protection programs available to solo parents. Proper implementation of these benefits in the community was also emphasized during the activity.
Allen’s Pharmacy, M&M Food House, Queen Cakes Enterprises, Sisigotilyo House of Sizzling, and Woks & Pans participated in the orientation conducted by the municipality. Their involvement highlighted the support of local businesses for programs benefiting solo parents and their children.
Benefits such as the 10-percent discount and tax exemptions discussed during the orientation are expected to become more accessible through stronger cooperation between the local government and participating establishments. Continued awareness campaigns are also seen to help more solo parents understand and avail of the privileges granted under the law.
